The British government is planning to attract more AI companies to the region by changing copyright law. With the proposed change, the developer can train the AI model for the content of the artist found online without permission or payment, unless the producer actively “opt out”. But not everyone marches with the same bit.
On Monday, 1,000 musicians have released a “Silent Album” that protests the planned changes. Album- This is an album titled, “Is this what we want?” It features tracks of Kate BUSH, Imogen Heap and modern classical composer MAX Richter and Thomas Hewitt Jones. In addition, hundreds of people include Annie Lennox, Damon Albarn, Billy Ocean, The Clash, Mystery Jets, Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Riz Ahmed, Tori Amos and Hans Zimmer.
But this is not a band original part 2. And it is not a collection of music. Instead, artists summarized the recording of empty studios and performance spaces. This is a symbolic expression of believing that it will be the influence of the planned copyright law change.
How to explain his contribution to the album. “There are two cats in the studio, and when I work, I bother me all day.”
In order to have more dull points, the title of the 12 tracks that make up the album describes the following messages: “The British government should not legalize music to benefit AI companies.”
This album is the latest movement to pay attention to the issue of how copyright is handled in AI education in the UK. Similar protests are in progress in other markets, such as the United States, and emphasize global interests among artists.
ED Newton-Rex, which organized the project, is leading a larger campaign for AI education without license. The petition he started was now signed by more than 47,000 writers, visual artists, actors and creative industries, and almost 10,000 people joined in the last five weeks after the British government announced a large AI strategy.
Newton-Rex also said, “We are operating non-profit organizations in AI last year, and we are basically certifying companies that do not scrape great things without permission.”
NEWTON-Rex arrived in defending the artist after hitting both sides. Classically trained as a composer, he later built an AI -based music composition platform called JUKEDECK, allowing people to create their own works and bypass copyrighted works. He wrapped the virtue of writing music using AI and won the lift with a noticeable pitch, winning the 2015 TechCrunch Startup Battlefield. JUKEDECK was eventually acquired by Tiktok and worked for some time in music services.
A few years later, another technical company, such as SNAP and STABILITY, is considering how to build a future without burning the past. He is worried about the idea at a pretty interesting point. He currently lives in the bay area with Alice Newton-Rex, the vice president of WhatsApp.
The album release will be ahead of the planned change of the British copyright law, and the artist will be forced to actively “opt out” the works used for AI education purposes.
NEWTON-REX thinks that artists create an effective lost situation because there is no opt-out method or a clear way to clearly track what certain data is supplied to the AI system.
“We know that the opt -out system is not taken,” he said. “This will only provide AI companies with 95%of people. It has no doubt. ”
Artists are to produce a work that can be better in other markets. Hewitt Jones said he was considering distributing his music in the future, such as Switzerland, who threw a work keyboard at Kent’s port in a few days ago.
However, the rocks of the port in Kent and the solid place cannot be compared with the west of the Internet.
“We have been instructed to share work online for decades because it is good for exposure. But now the government has turned around with AI companies, and ‘Well, you put it online online… “Newton-Rex said. “Now artists are stopping creating and sharing their works. Many artists contact me and say that this is what they do. ”
The album will be posted on the music platform someday on Tuesday, the organizer said.
