You probably know about Black Friday. It’s the day after Thanksgiving when retailers offer huge discounts on a variety of products. But there’s another Black Friday on the calendar, known as “Black Friday in July.” And it’s already happening!
In response to Amazon Prime Day on July 16 and 17, top retailers like Wayfair, Ulta, Target, Walmart (and more) are offering Black Friday-level sales throughout the year. That’s why people have come to call it Black Friday in July, Christmas in July, and Cyber Monday in July. Many of these sales will be happening right on Prime Day, but some will start earlier or run later.

What is Black Friday in July?
Unlike the winter Black Friday, which always falls on the day after Thanksgiving, “Black Friday in July” refers to a series of sales that typically take place in early to mid-July, rather than a specific day of the week or weekend.
One reason for these sales is that retailers want to compete with Amazon Prime Day, which usually takes place mid-month (this year, July 16 and 17). But a lot of it is also seasonal. Summer is considered “almost over” after the Fourth of July weekend (sob), so many clearance sales start to taper off. At the same time, school supply shopping season begins.
Are Black Friday sales in July worth it?
From buying summer items on clearance to buying school supplies early, there are plenty of good reasons to shop during the Black Friday sales in July. Be smart about what you want and what you don’t. Of course, the worst thing you can do is buy something on sale and not use it. But take advantage of the slowdown that retailers typically experience between Memorial Day and Labor Day to scoop up some bargains.
