The Rue des Rosiers attack was condemned by a Palestinian splinter group founded by Abu Nidal, a notorious militant who was shot dead in Iraq in 2002. Nidal’s organization broke away from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and was blamed for a series of deadly attacks, mainly in the 1980s, that killed 900 people, including assassinations, plane hijackings, and shootings at airports and Greek cruise ships.
