From Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields to New York’s Aaron Rodgers target, let’s take a look at the NFL’s top fantasy football waiver wire targets heading into Week 4 of the 2024 season…
Emmanuel Wilson – RB, Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers’ young offense, led by Matt LaFleur, continues to shine as one of the most free-spirited and creative teams in the league, and that was on display in Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans, where Malik Willis impressed as the starting quarterback in place of the injured Jordan Love.
Wilson was one of the standout performers among the undrafted running backs in 2023, recording 12 carries for 50 yards and two catches for 35 yards and his first career touchdown, and he found the end zone on a beautifully designed screen. While Josh Jacobs continues to do most of the work in the backfield, Wilson’s passing game prowess gives LaFleur another weapon in the art of pre-snap misdirection.
But the Packers’ next opponent is the Minnesota Vikings, who gave up just 274 total yards of offense to the Houston Texans in Week 3.
Chuba Hubbard – RB, Carolina Panthers
It was quite a week for the Carolina Panthers. After benching No. 1 quarterback Bryce Young, veteran Andy Dalton led the team that beat the Baltimore Ravens a week ago in a 36-22 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Dalton himself made a strong case for waiver status this week, throwing three touchdown passes, but running back Hubbard was another player who shined in head coach Dave Cannellys’ first win.
The 2021 fourth-round pick rushed for 114 yards on 21 carries and had five catches for 55 yards and a touchdown, a welcome complement to Diontae Johnson’s eight catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. It marked the second-highest touchdown total of his NFL career, and for the second straight week, he was targeted five times in the passing game.
Jauan Jennings – WR, San Francisco 49ers
There was no Deebo Samuel, no Christian McCaffrey, no George Kittle. It was Jauan Jennings’ time to shine for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday. He had 11 catches, including a stunning Randy Moss-style grab, for 175 yards and three touchdowns in a loss to the Los Angeles Rams.
It was the latest reminder of the immense talent that Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purdy possess, while Jennings saw more targets than Brandon Ayyuk but saw his efforts go unrewarded by a Rams counterattack led by Matthew Stafford.
Jennings has long been a favorite of Coach Shanahan, who has often praised his ability to buy separation despite not being the fastest receiver on the most crafty route runners. He has an open demeanor, and he’s been rewarded for it. With McCaffrey out for a few more weeks and Samuel and Kittle recovering, he’ll be called upon as the 49ers look to ignite the season after a 1-2 start.
Tyler Bodie – RB, Denver Broncos
Fun fact: Tyler Vardy loves Looney Tunes. His favorite character as a kid was the Tasmanian Devil. The joy of pre-draft interviews that could come back to haunt him after his NFL success! Vardy had to be patient as he waited for his opportunity after being drafted in the sixth round by the Ravens in 2022, and soon after he arrived in Denver, playing behind guys like Latavious Murray, Melvin Gordon III, and Javonte Williams.
His shining moment came on Sunday when he had nine catches for 70 yards on an average of 7.8 yards per catch in the Broncos’ 26-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The running game is crucial for Sean Payton’s team as they look to set up rookie quarterback Bo Nix for success. Body will likely have a bigger role to play after backfield partner Williams struggled early in the season.
Tyler Conklin – TE, New York Jets
Aaron Rodgers has arrived, the New York Jets have woken up, and suddenly there seems to be a new contender in the AFC. While Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard lead the way as Rodgers’ reliable targets, tight end Tyler Conklin has emerged as a standout figure in the Jets’ offense, highlighting his value with five catches for 93 yards in Thursday night’s win over the New England Patriots.
He continues to see one of the highest snap counts per week while running routes on most of Rodgers’ dropbacks. The talent around him casts doubt on the consistency of his production and usage, but Conklin has few competitors at the tight end position in New York.
Justin Fields – QB, Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Tomlin’s tough Pittsburgh Steelers have started the year 3-0, and Russell Wilson is unlikely to step in at quarterback to replace Justin Fields, who is returning from injury. Fields made more progress in his bid to solidify his starting job on Sunday, completing 25 of 32 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown and one interception in a 20-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers.
He looks more comfortable in the pocket, continues to thrive in Arthur Smith’s offense, and has a perfect record of performance so far this season, regardless of the nature of the win. His best pass of the weekend came on a 55-yard home call from Calvin Austin III, where Fields saw the receiver run for a touchdown after cutting through traffic and piercing a bullet. Can the former Chicago Bear breathe new life into his career?
