World Darts Championship Format

Speaking on Love The Darts, Abigail Davies and Chris Murphy discuss Luke Litter’s rise to world number one and who could challenge him for the World Championship.

The format was changed ahead of this year’s contest, with all players entering the tournament at the first round stage, while seeded players previously received a bye until the next round.

The World Championship uses a sets format, with each set lasting from rounds 1 to 3. A deciding set requires a win in at least two games, so if it’s 2-2 in the final set, a player must win 4-2 or 5-3. At 5-5, a sudden death leg occurs without a bull being thrown, so the change of who throws first continues.
