Most travelers only spend one or two days in Bogotá. It is not considered a highlight of Colombia and is usually overlooked by most travelers.
I think that’s a mistake.
I actually loved my time in Bogotá. Didn’t see much of the city. gringofication Like other cities in the country, this one felt most Colombian to me. I liked it so much that I ended up staying longer than planned!
But where you stay in a city (and which hotel you stay at) will have a huge impact on your trip. Not all areas of the city are safe, and not all hotels here are created equal.
To help you make the most of your visit, here is a list of the best hotels in Bogota:
1. Magdalena Guesthouse

This budget guesthouse is located in La Candelaria, the city’s historic centre. The property really feels like home, with a small garden and internal courtyard, comfortable lounge, resident cats and lovely hosts who do their best to make you feel at home in Bogotá. There is a kitchen that guests can also use.
Rooms are basic and minimally decorated yet cozy, with parquet floors and unique artwork on the walls. The bathroom is where the room really shines. I love the brightly colored tile floors and walk-in shower. The water is always hot and the pressure is good (not always the case in this neighborhood). There are free toiletries and the beds are really comfortable. All of Bogota’s main attractions are within walking distance, so if you want to spend a lot of time seeing the sights, stay here.
2. HAB Hotel Bogotá

Located on a quiet residential street in trendy Chapinero, this stylish 4-star hotel offers upscale amenities at mid-range prices. I love that it has a setting in this grand historic home. The entire place is incredibly stylish and offers a plant-filled outdoor terrace, rooftop patio, and a 24/7 fitness center. We also have our own farm-to-table restaurant/bar serving a delicious breakfast in the morning and great cocktails in the evening.
The spacious rooms have hardwood floors and huge windows that let in lots of light (thank goodness there are blackout curtains for when you want to block out the light). All rooms feature high-quality mattresses, a desk, a minibar, a flat-screen TV and a safe. The stylish bathrooms feature stylish black tiles and complimentary luxury toiletries. It’s an oasis of calm in one of the city’s coolest neighborhoods.
3. Legacy House

The 5-star Casa Legado in Quinta Camacho is an outstanding hotel beautifully designed in mid-20th century style. Each of the 13 guest rooms is unique. Some rooms have a balcony and some offer garden views. All rooms have a fun and playful atmosphere with accents such as bright wallpaper, leafy plants, hardwood floors, fireplaces and beautifully tiled bathrooms with walk-in showers. The bright and spacious rooms feature a desk, a flat-screen TV with streaming services and a safe.
I especially like all the perks here. There is a complimentary breakfast, guest bikes, a quiet interior courtyard, and a tour desk to help plan activities. This neighborhood has the highest concentration of fine restaurants in the city, so foodies looking for luxury will stay here. It is also one of the safest areas.
4. Avani Royal Zona T Bogotá Hotel

This 4-star hotel is located in the heart of the city’s main shopping and entertainment district, Zona Rosa (also known as Zona T). This is a stylish, modern hotel with spacious rooms with a minimalist design. Beds are large and comfortable, and rooms include a minibar, mini-fridge, flat-screen TV, coffee/tea maker, and desk. The rooms are well-soundproofed, which is a plus for staying in a popular area known for its nightlife. The bathroom is small but has adequate water pressure and free toiletries are provided.
There is also a fitness center. A mouth-watering breakfast buffet with fresh fruit, bread, meat and granola; Very attentive staff who will ensure a comfortable stay. It’s also pet-friendly and offers free on-site parking. The combination of amenities and location here really can’t be beat.
5. Hotel 5 Elementos Aparta Suites

Combining the benefits of renting an apartment and staying in a hotel, all rooms at this 3-star hotel are fully-equipped apartments with their own kitchen. Although the decor feels a bit dated, there are nice hardwood floors throughout and rooms also include a seating area, desk, flat-screen TV, coffee maker, and laptop safe. The bathroom is not large, but the shower is a good size and features colorful tiles (and of course, good water pressure).
The free breakfast is great, and I especially like that they make eggs to order. There is also an on-site fitness center, business center and relaxing outdoor garden. Although not a very central location, you can easily get to the city center and the airport from here. Overall, this is a great choice for families or groups looking for more space.
6. Grand Hyatt Bogotá

If you really want to splurge (or maybe you have Hyatt points to spend), you won’t find a more luxurious hotel than this 5-star hotel. Grand Hyatt has the largest urban spa in Latin America, featuring a stunning indoor pool, sauna, hot tub, treatment rooms and a fitness center with personal trainers. There are also two restaurants, a cocktail bar and a takeaway market. A special breakfast is also served in the morning.
Rooms and suites are bright and airy thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. I love that every room has a great view overlooking the Andes or the city itself. Featuring a modern, minimalist design, it features a desk, Nespresso coffee maker, mini-fridge, 50-inch flat-screen TV and safe. The bathroom is spacious and features double vanities, a marble bathtub and a pressure-sensitive shower. The only downside to this hotel is that it’s a bit far from the historic center (it’s located in the business district, about 20 minutes away by Uber). However, if you want luxury, this hotel is for you.
Bogotá is one of my favorite cities in Colombia. It’s worth taking the time to explore. Staying at one of the hotels above will provide you with a fun, safe and affordable stay in Colombia’s vibrant capital.
