One of the examples that boosted morale across Venezuela was the rescue of three young siblings from a dust- and debris-covered wreckage in La Guaira, according to footage broadcast on state television.
“Come here, honey, come here.” A man said to the first child who survived from among the concrete blocks.
Then a girl comes out and the man asks her, “Are you brothers and sisters?” She replies, “Yes, there are three of us.”
Soon after, with more difficulty, a third sister appeared, sobbing and covered in dust from head to toe.
May those who passed away rest in peace. The wife of Venezuelan soccer player Héctor Bello has died while trying to save her daughter, according to his social media and local news reports.
Bello wrote on Instagram that “his precious love”, whom Venezuelan media outlets named his wife Andrea, saved his child’s life during the earthquake.
“Let me tell you how you saved my daughter, my love, how you gave your life for our daughter and how you were a brave woman who never abandoned her even in her last breath,” Bello wrote in one post.
Their government confirmed that one Portuguese national and two Brazilian citizens were among the dead.
Spanish media, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that four Spanish nationals were killed and 106 were still missing.
Venezuelan Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said several states were affected by the twin earthquakes. The worst-hit areas in Caracas were Los Palos Grandes and Altamira.
The government said aftershocks had a major impact on the northern coastline, including La Guaira, Aragua, Carabobo and Falcón.
