Adobe announced Tuesday that it has added generative removal to Lightroom. Built on top of Firefly, Gen AI features allow you to seamlessly edit objects in your photos. The feature will be available in early access on Tuesday.
Adobe says this feature is up to the task, no matter how complex the background the object is set against. “Generative Remove is useful for editing even the most complex backgrounds and environments, including removing stains from patterned shirts, removing tablecloth creases from food photos, removing unwanted reflections in water, and more,” the company says.
The Photoshop developer announced its foray into generative AI in March 2023.
“Firefly is the next step in our AI journey, combining new ‘gentech’ models with decades of investments in imaging, typography, illustration, and more to produce assets,” the company told TechCrunch at the time. “We will deliver this value to our customers’ workflows where content is created across Creative Cloud, Experience Cloud, and Document Cloud.”
At launch, the product offered the ability to convert text to images and apply pictures to a variety of styles. In the intervening 14 months, Adobe introduced Firefly to its video product line, allowing you to design vector graphics in Illustrator and adding generative fill capabilities.
The company said it is working closely with the photography community to improve and expand its new removal tool.
Adobe also announced Tuesday the generative availability of Lens Blur, which can be used to add depth by creating a bokeh-style effect to images.
