
SpaceX has unveiled the Starlink Mini, a more portable version of its satellite internet product that's small enough to fit in a backpack.
Early Starlink customers are invited to purchase the Starlink Mini kit for $599, according to an invitation sent to customers by TechCrunch. It costs $100 more than the standard Starlink kit. They also gave you the option to bundle the Mini Roam service with your existing service plan for an extra $30 per month, although data is capped at 50GB per month.
This means Starlink residential customers on the standard service plan will spend $150 per month. SpaceX aims to lower kit prices, the invitation states. There are currently no standalone Mini Roam plans.
“Our goal is to lower the price of Starlink for people around the world who have little or no access to the connection,” he says. “However, in high usage areas where Starlink Mini will create additional demand on the satellite network, we are offering a limited number of Starlink Mini kits starting at $599.”
The mini antenna is surprisingly light. It weighs about 2.5 pounds including the kickstand, which is only about 60% the weight of a standard Starlink plate. The service also boasts a maximum download speed of over 100Mbps.
The first Starlink Mini is scheduled to be released in July. This option will undoubtedly be attractive to travelers, and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said at
