Super League: Luke Robinson in talks for permanent Huddersfield Giants managerial role | Rugby League News

Luke Robinson is set to discuss the possibility of becoming Huddersfield Giants' permanent manager.

Robinson is currently serving as the Giants' interim coach following the departure of Ian Watson last week and is hoping to improve the team's performance.

Huddersfield have lost nine of their last 10 games in all competitions and face Salford Red Devils. It'll be broadcast live on Sky Sports Mix on Friday at 7.45pm.

“I was never in a rush to take over. I was only a few weeks away from being fired,” Robinson said. Sky Sports' verdict.

“I feel ready. I've done my apprenticeship and worked under a lot of coaches as a player and as an assistant coach.

“It has to be the right fit, the right timing. Not just for me, but for the club. If they don't think it's the right timing for me, they'll help anyone who comes in.

“All I want is the best for this club. Wherever the club decides to go, I will follow. If you ask me if I am ready and if I think I can do the job, I think I will do it very well.”

When asked if he had spoken to the club, he said: “I haven't spoken to the board. I've spoken to the CEO a little bit, but there's a lot going on behind the scenes. There hasn't been time to sit down and talk.

“We're really struggling with injuries right now. We're just bare bones. So there's a lot we've tried to sort out in the short term. We've put the long term on hold a little bit.”

Robinson: It's not a quick fix

Huddersfield reached the 2022 Challenge Cup final, finishing third, but have struggled since.

Andre Sabellio was sent off for the second time in four games for Huddersfield in last week's win over Lee.

The Giants are also struggling with injuries and are sitting ninth in the Super League.

“We just need to win a few games and start feeling proud of our performances. That's what the fans and the club want to see,” Robinson said.

“The long-term vision hasn't been laid out for me yet. I don't know what's going on (behind the scenes), but my job is to get the players playing well, to get them playing as a team, and we made some progress last week.

“It's not something that can be resolved quickly because things have been going on behind the scenes with the players for weeks and months. We've tried to iron out as much as possible and bring the group together.

“Anyone who watched that game at Leigh would have seen a group of players willing to give a lot of effort for each other. They're moving in the right direction but there's still a bit of healing to do.”
