Musk said on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that “Tesla will release a truly useful humanoid robot in small quantities for internal Tesla use next year, and hopefully in mass production for other companies in 2026.”
The news comes just a day before Tesla reports its latest financial results.
The company's shares closed up more than 5 percent in New York trading on Monday.
The company said it aims to create “autonomous humanoid robots” that perform “unsafe, repetitive or tedious tasks.”
Mr Musk has previously said Tesla aims to mass produce the robots and price them at less than $20,000 (£17,900) each.
He is known for setting ambitious schedules for his companies, but he doesn't always stick to them.
In 2019, he said he was “very confident” Tesla would have self-driving taxis on the road by next year.
Earlier this year, Musk said his long-awaited robotaxi would be unveiled on August 8.
He appeared to confirm reports last week that the event would be postponed.
Musk did not give a new date, but said he had asked for the front end of the car to be replaced.
“Thanks to the free time, we can show you a few other things,” he wrote.
It comes after Bloomberg News reported the event had been postponed to October.
Musk's business is increasingly focused on technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and robotics at a time when demand for electric vehicles is slowing.
