Begin your Cheetah Trail experience in September at Samara Karoo Reserve, a Big Five game reserve in South Africa’s Eastern Cape. This three-night guided hiking adventure offers the opportunity to explore the diverse landscapes and wildlife of the 67,000-acre reserve on foot.
Samara is renowned as one of the best places to see cheetahs, Africa’s most endangered big cats, in the wild. The Cheetah Trail allows visitors to immerse themselves in the ecosystem, learn about cheetah conservation efforts, and track these creatures with experienced guides.
The Cheetah Trail offers moderate hiking, with daily distances ranging from 10 to 15 kilometers (about 6 to 10 miles). Guests traverse a variety of biomes from grasslands to mountains, encountering a wide range of wildlife, including the Big Five (elephant, rhinoceros, Cape buffalo, lion, and leopard), vast herds of wildebeest and zebra, and over 225 species of birds.
