Considering everything you've already heard about AI, it probably won't surprise you to learn that Google is one of several companies that have begun using sound signals to predict early signs of disease.
How? According to Bloomberg, Google trained a basic AI model on 300 million audio recordings, including coughs, runny noses, and shortness of breath, to identify people who are fighting tuberculosis, for example.
Now, the company is working with an Indian company called Salcit Technologies, a respiratory health AI startup, to bring that technology to smartphones, potentially helping high-risk populations in areas with limited access to healthcare.
This isn’t Google’s first attempt to digitize human senses. The venture arm has also backed at least one startup that uses AI to literally smell disease.
