At least 17 students were killed when a fire broke out at a school in central Kenya on Thursday night, police said.
There are concerns the death toll could rise as more than a dozen people were taken to hospital with serious burns.
The cause of the fire that broke out at Hillside Ndarasha Primary School in Nyeri County is being investigated, police spokesperson Resila Onyango told local media.
President William Ruto called the fires “horrific” and destructive and ordered an investigation.
“Those responsible will be held accountable,” Mr. Ruto posted on the X platform.
Police said investigators were dispatched to the school.
