More than 3,000 people have been rescued so far, according to a government spokesman.
However, flash floods along with landslides caused many deaths.
A landslide collapsed a house in Bhaktapur, east of Kathmandu, killing five people, including a pregnant woman and a four-year-old girl, state media reported.
Two bodies were pulled from a bus buried in a landslide in Dhading, west of Kathmandu. It is reported that 12 people, including the driver, are on board the boat.
A landslide also occurred at the All Nepal Football Association training center in Makanpur, southwest of the capital, killing six football players.
Others were swept away by the flood. In one dramatic scene, four people were swept into the Naku River in the southern Kathmandu Valley.
“They kept pleading for help for hours,” eyewitness Jitendra Bhandari told the BBC. “We couldn’t do anything.”
Hari Om Malla lost his truck after it was submerged in water in Kathmandu.
He told the BBC that water “gushed” into the cabin as the rain intensified on Friday night.
“We jumped out, swam and ran away, but our wallets, bags and phones were swept away by the river. Now we have nothing. We were out in the cold all night.”
