Google is adding new AI-powered features to India Maps, including AI-powered summaries, experiential search features, and weather alerts.
The Maps app says it will analyze reviews and display a summary of places. The company announced this at its annual Google for India event held on Thursday.
Users can also find cake sellers by searching for items and experiences on the map, such as requesting a “unique picnic spot” or “themed birthday cake.”
When people ask those questions, Google Maps will show an image-first experience that prioritizes photos uploaded by businesses and users, the company said.
Google uses image recognition to associate a label or description of a place with that search term.
The company also said that while navigating, users will see new weather alerts for areas with low visibility due to fog and flooded roads.
The new feature bundle will be rolled out to Indian users starting later this month. AI-powered review summaries already debuted on U.S. Maps in February. Google’s competitor Yelp also displays business summaries in its revamped feed. in the usa
Last July, Google added a number of India-related features to Maps, including better navigation instructions, better navigation on flyovers (overpasses) and narrow roads, EV charging stations, and community-based listings for place searches in some cities.
