A&K Travel Group says it will rebuild, add appeal and upgrade its safari-style luxury tourism properties in Botswana and Uganda in 2025.
Uganda’s Gorilla Forest Camp, soon to be converted to Gorilla Forest Lodge, is an incomparably closer place to mountain gorillas. Baines’ Lodge in Botswana is famous for its Okavango Delta adventures.
Both are part of A&K’s Sanctuary Retreats subsidiary, which owns and operates 12 luxury safari camps and lodges across eastern and southern Africa and four riverboats in Egypt. Both are scheduled to undergo renovations and reopen in mid-2025.
What is upgraded?
Gorilla Forest Camp is the only luxury lodge within the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Each of the ten suites has been significantly expanded and rebuilt. Floor-to-ceiling windows complement the expansive veranda-like deck. Design elements include clay shapes, textured plaster walls, woven banana leaf ceilings, and elongated framed vistas.

The property dates back to a 1985 meeting between Geoffrey Kent, founder of Abercrombie & Kent, and the then President of Uganda. The result is a joint effort to create a sustainable tourism model that benefits both the gorillas and the local Batwa people.
