Apple may update Find My to allow you to share the location of lost items.

Apple may soon allow users to use Links to share the location of lost or missing items, such as iPhones, Macbooks, or Airtag-attached items, with people outside of their contacts through the Find My app.

Macrumors discovered the updated feature in the iOS 18.2 developer beta, which Apple says is meant to help you find lost items by sharing your location with people like taxi drivers or airline employees.

The Find My app in iOS 18.2 developer beta has a new “Share Item Location” option that provides a shareable link to the location of a missing item. People can track you by opening the link on any device (even non-Apple devices). The link automatically expires after one week or when the item arrives back.

There’s also a “Share contact information” option that will allow you to associate any phone with the item and open the website if you’ve added your details to the item’s contact page. This will display your phone number and email. This is likely to help anyone who finds the item contact you.

Find My lets you share the location of an item with people who are already in your contacts.

The update also allows users to view statistics such as how many people have visited a link.
