The company said it expected to incur one-off costs of $12 million (£9.3 million), including severance costs, against its plans to save $35 million.
“We are taking these difficult but necessary steps as we restructure 23andMe and focus on the long-term success of our core consumer business and research partnerships,” Wojcicki said.
The company also said it is considering what to do with treatments it is developing, including licensing or selling them.
23andMe is a giant in the growing ancestry tracing industry. We offer DNA genetic testing with ancestry analysis and personalized health insights.
Last December, 23andMe confirmed that hackers had accessed the information of about 6.9 million users.
In some cases, this includes family trees, year of birth and geographic location, the company said. But he said the stolen data did not include DNA records.
Clients have included celebrities from rapper Snoop Dogg to billionaire investor Warren Buffett.
