Menendez brothers’ resentencing hearing postponed to January

Nearly 30 years have passed since the success of the Netflix drama and docuseries, sparking a resurgence of public interest.

About two dozen members of Menendez’s family, now aged 53 and 56, and celebrities such as Kim Kardashian have said he should be freed.

On Monday, several family members appeared in court for a hearing in the case.

Kitty Menendez’s sister, Joan Anderson VanderMolen, testified in court Monday and pleaded with the judge to grant them release.

“I hope they come home,” the 92-year-old said as he used a walker to reach the front of the courtroom. “No child should be guaranteed what Eric and Lyle went through.”

Jose Menendez’s sister, Terry Beralt, 85, also testified in support of their release. “35 years is a long time.” She paused several times and shed tears.

She said she wanted the opportunity to see and hug them without going to jail.

But the family completely disagrees.

A lawyer for Kitty Menendez’s brother, Milton Andersen, called the brothers cold-blooded and said, “Their actions shattered their family and left a trail of grief that has lasted for decades.”

Anderson’s lawyer, Kathy Cady, said Mr Anderson believed his nephews should be in prison for their “heinous acts”.
