Russia expels British diplomat accused of spying

It comes as relations between Britain and Russia deteriorate following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Last week, Britain appeared to lift restrictions on Ukraine for the first time, using British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles against targets inside Russia.

President Vladimir Putin cited moves such as the launch of a long-range missile supplied by the United States into Russian territory behind Russia’s decision to launch a new hypersonic missile from Dnipro, Ukraine, on Thursday.

Since the start of the war, the expulsion of diplomats has become increasingly common.

Earlier this year, British diplomat Captain Adrian Coghill was ordered to leave Russia, just days after the Russian defense attache was expelled from London on suspicion of espionage as an ‘undeclared military intelligence officer’.
