Rosewood Miyakojima Reservation Open: Travel Weekly

Rosewood Miyakojima opened on Miyako Island on March 1 and resort reservations have begun. It will be the Rosewood brand’s first hotel in Japan.

Nestled among sugar cane fields on the north side of the island and overlooking Oura Bay, Rosewood Miyakojima offers 55 rooms, each with ocean views. Rosewood says the architecture draws from the history, landscape and culture of the Ryukyu Islands, blending indigenous materials from Okinawa, such as Ryukyu limestone, with the Japanese spirit of wabisabi – finding beauty in imperfection and embracing the transient nature of things.

The resort’s Asaya Spa features 6 treatment rooms, a yoga studio and a fitness centre. The spa menu includes wellness treatments using traditional Okinawan ingredients, including mud masks inspired by the local Paantu festival.

You can enjoy the infinity pool next to the beach.

The restaurant serves locally produced products such as Miyako Wagyu beef, freshly caught fish, and awamori (Okinawa sake). Choma will serve sophisticated interpretations of Miyakojima’s seasonal harvests, Yukuu will be a poolside bar, Maas will focus on seafood and simple ingredients, and Nagi will offer an all-day Italian dining experience.

Rosewood Miyakojima will offer activities to connect with local culture and explore the island, from calligraphy with an artist to snorkeling over coral reefs and encounters with sea turtles.

Wedding ceremonies and other events are held in a private pavilion overlooking the sea.
