Watch: 90-year-old with Parkinson’s disease competes in weightlifting competition.

A 90-year-old woman suffering from Parkinson’s disease competed in a weightlifting competition for people in their 70s and over in Taipei, Taiwan, and received support from three generations of her family.

In the third round of competition, Cheng Chen Chin-Mei lifted 35, 40 and 45 kg.

“I would like to tell all older people to engage in exercise. You don’t have to work too hard, but it’s just to stay healthy,” said Cheng Chen.

Competition officials said the event aims to help Taipei’s aging population, with Taiwan in the process of becoming a “super-aging society.” This means a country where at least 21% of the population is over 65 years of age.

Taiwan aims to establish 288 fitness clubs for seniors nationwide by 2025, with the average age expected to be 48.7 by 2030.
