Arlo’s monthly fee is rising again.

Arlo has once again increased the price of monthly subscriptions for its Arlo Secure cloud storage plan for its smart home cameras. The company now charges $9.99 per month to store recordings from one camera (up from $7.99) and $19.99 per month for unlimited cameras (up from $17.99). And instead of calling the cheaper plan Arlo Secure, both are now named Secure Plus.

The cheapest Secure plan, at $9.99 per month, is now more than three times the $2.99 per month Arlo used to charge to store video in the cloud for a single camera. The company raised it to $4.99 in early 2023, and then to $7.99 last year. The single camera plan still costs $7.99 per month if you use annual billing, while the unlimited camera plan is effectively $17.99 per month if you pay for a year upfront.

Arlo’s annual pricing is slightly cheaper on a monthly basis.

This price increase comes after Arlo announced a new set of AI-based features in September. These features include the ability for users to name and receive notifications for specific people or vehicles visible on the camera, or to train the camera to detect and notify events such as sprinklers turning on or garage doors opening. The company also doubled the amount of time it will store recordings from 30 to 60 days.

According to screenshots posted to the Arlo subreddit, Arlo has given at least some users the ability to keep their existing rates by switching to an annual plan.

Users can still get free storage space using Arlo base stations and SmartHub devices that are compatible with the camera. But going this way also means missing out on certain subscription-only features that make smart cameras attractive, like package detection.
