President RECEP Tayyip Erdogan accused the protests in Türkiye after arresting major opposition.
Erdo said in a Friday speech that his government would not “surrender” the “damage” or “distance terror” before more protests. “We will not accept the confusion of public order.”
On Wednesday, the police prosecuted Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu for corruption and supported terrorism.
In protest, thousands of people went to the streets throughout Turkey on Friday despite the ban on protests. 53 people were arrested on Thursdays, the Secretary of Interior said.
Imamoglu, a secular Republican People’s People’s Party (CHP), is considered one of the strongest political competitors of President RECEP TAYYIP ERDOGAN.
His arrest was a few days before the 2028 presidential election candidate.
He was detained as part of an investigation, including other politicians, journalists and businessmen.
Thousands of people gathered as a protest in Istanbul on Friday and reportedly fired rubber bullets and pepper gas as the riot police collided with the protesters. Another conflict has been reported in IZMIR.
Ozgur Ozel, the leader of CHP, demanded a third night protest outside Istanbul City Hall at 20:30 (17:30 GMT) and said the president feared.
He also asked people to demonstrate peacefully wherever they were in the country at the same time.
“Disassemble the barricades without harming the police and go to the distance and square.”
The authorities tried to curb street protests with a four -day ban on all meetings of Istanbul, which was announced immediately after the arrest on Wednesday.
They expanded this order to Ankara and West Coast City Izu Mir as protests spread out of Turkey.
Prior to the protests on Friday, Istanbul’s pro-Rayo Governor ordered the closure of Galata and Attark bridges.
Ali Yerlikaya, a minister of interrogation, criticized the protests that called the opposition “irresponsible”.
He was arrested for violating laws that “violate the public,” he said, by posting online online, saying that “the public”.
Yerlikaya added that 16 police officers were injured in the protests.
The arrest of IMAMOGLU and other people has followed major crackdowns in the country in recent months, targeting opposition politicians, journalists and figures in the entertainment industry.
The opposition party says arrest was politically motivated. But the Ministry of Justice criticized those who connected ERDOGAN to arrest and insisted on judicial independence.
IMAMOGLU earned his second term to Istanbul Mayor last year when his CHP party swept the local elections last year.
It was the first time that Erdogan was defeated by his party in the ballot box.
The elections were also personally hit by the president, and the president grew up to increase power and became the market of Istanbul.
ERDOGAN has held an office for the past 22 years as a Turkish prime minister and president. Due to the term restrictions, he cannot run for the office in 2028 unless he changes the Constitution.
CHP’s choice of presidential candidates will be voted by 1.5 million members, IMAMOGLU is the only person and will be held on Sunday.
The party also demanded citizens in a symbolic election, and plans to place the entire Turkish ballot box all over Turkey so that people can show their support for the detained market.
