
US President Donald Trump has signed an administrative order to add $ 100,000 (£ 74,000) annual fees for applicants for H-1B visa programs for skilled foreign workers.
Trump’s command mentions the “abuse” of the program and restricts the position unless you pay.
Critics have long weakened H -1B weakened US labor, while supporters, including the billionaire Elon Musk, argued that the United States could attract the world’s best talent.
In another order, Trump exchanged with a fee that started at £ 1 million to set a new “Gold Card” for certain immigrants.
Trump’s command will take effect on September 21. Howard Root Lutnick, the US Minister of Commerce, said it applies only to new requests, but the company said it should pay the same amount for each applicant for six years.
“The company must make a decision … It is worth to pay $ 100,000 annually to the government, and should go home and hire Americans.”
Since 2004, the number of H-1B applications has been limited to 85,000 per year.
So far, the H-1B visa has carried a total of $ 1,500 a variety of administrative fees.
According to data from US citizenship and immigration service (USCIS), the application for H-1B visa in fiscal year next year has fallen to about 359,000 at the lowest level of four years.
