New Zealand won their first Women’s World Cup in their third attempt with a 100-run win over Bangladesh in Guwahati.

The White Ferns, who lost to favorites Australia in their opening match before traveling down to South Africa earlier this week, skittled the Tigresses for 127 in 39.5 overs.

Bangladesh, who have won 228 matches, beat Pakistan in their first match and then pushed England all the way on Tuesday, but were on the verge of a major defeat when they lost 33-6 on Friday.

Fahima Khatun hit 34 off 80 balls along with Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan to help Bangladesh escape the 100-run mark, but it was New Zealand’s Lea Tahuhu who ultimately bowled Nishita Akter Nishi in his 100th ODI appearance. It proved to be too late as they completed 3-22.

New Zealand went from 38-3 down to 227-9, thanks mainly to Brooke Halliday (69) and Sophie Devine (63).

Devine and Halliday shared a fourth-wicket stand of 112, the former’s third successive pitch-plus score after scoring a ton against Australia and 85 against South Africa.
