At least 60 killed in drone strike in besieged Sudanese city

At least 60 people have been killed in a drone strike at a refugee shelter in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher, which was on the verge of collapse.

The El-Fasher Resistance Committee, made up of local citizens and activists, said paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacked the Dar al-Arqam camp. Located inside a university with 2 drone attacks and 8 artillery shells.

“Children, women and the elderly were murdered in cold blood and many were burned to the ground,” AFP reported.

The RSF has been besieging El-Fasher for the past 17 months in a bid to seize control of the Sudanese army’s last stronghold in the Darfur region.

The resistance group said the situation in El Fasher was “beyond disaster and genocide.”

Hunger and disease spread throughout the city as residents battled continued bombardment and dwindling supplies of food and medicine.

Sudan has been ravaged by conflict since 2023 after the top commanders of the RSF and the Sudanese army were toppled and a vicious power struggle ensued, leading to one of the country’s worst humanitarian crises.
