F1 cost cap: Aston Martin commits ‘minor’ breach of financial rules with FIA, results for 2024 Formula 1 season confirmed soon | F1 News

Aston Martin has confirmed with the FIA that it will soon announce results for the 2024 season over a minor procedural breach of Formula 1’s cost cap rules.

Aston Martin didn’t overspend, but Sky Sports News We understand that extenuating circumstances prevented the team from submitting accounts in time for the March 31 deadline.

There is no sporting penalty for the breach, but Aston Martin was forced to sign an Accepted Breach Agreement (ABA) with the FIA to acknowledge its mistakes during the submission process.

An FIA spokesperson said: “The FIA’s cost cap administration is in the process of finalizing its review of 2024 submissions from teams and powerplant manufacturers and the results are expected to be communicated shortly.

“The FIA does not comment on individual submissions from specific teams and/or powertrain manufacturers and, in line with established practice, the results of the review will be made public once the evaluation of all submissions has been completed and confirmed.”

Craig Slater details exactly what Formula 1’s cost cap is and why it is used within the sport.

In 2021, Aston Martin was fined £388,000 for procedural breaches of budget caps because it “incorrectly excluded and/or adjusted costs from relevant cost calculations”. Williams was fined £20,000 in the same season for missing the deadline for submitting his accounts.

Last year, Formula 1 engine manufacturers Honda and Alpine were fined £462,000 and £308,000 respectively for breaching cost cap submission procedures.

The biggest budget cap controversy occurred when Red Bull was fined £6 million for breaching its 2021 budget cap of £1.86 million and had its wind tunnel time cut by 10% for the 2023 season.

Budget cap results for this season will be released next fall.
