Uganda’s Asilia Africa lodge offers some of the best gorilla trekking opportunities: Travel Weekly

Asilia Africa will expand into Uganda in mid-2026 with the opening of Erebero Hills, a new eight-suite lodge on the northern edge of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The facility will be the safari operator’s first foray into Uganda and its entry into the highly competitive mountain gorilla trekking market.

Set on 45 acres of reforested land, Erebero Hills offers direct access to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to more than half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. Each suite features a private gazebo with forest views, an outdoor shower and a bathtub with a view.

The main lodge includes a pool and deck, pool bar, sunken fireplace lounge, library and spa treatment facilities. Rates range from $1,100 per person per night in low season to $2,000 per person per night in high season.

regional focus

Asilia Africa has partnered with local organization Change a Life Bwindi to engage indigenous Batwa and Bakiga communities as part of the development. The company has committed to planting 25,000 native trees to create a reforested buffer zone around existing national parks to expand wildlife habitat and support local livelihoods.

Led by Pablo Luna Studios, the lodge’s design will use local materials including bamboo, stone and rammed earth. The structure will adapt to the sloping terrain through terraces and suspended elements that integrate with the forest canopy.

Activities revolve around gorilla trekking experiences along with forest walks, visits to waterfalls, cultural tours with the Batwa community and exploration of nearby tea plantations. The lodge will also offer forest bathing and garden tours as part of its wellness program.
