The DP World Tour has announced a new trophy named after Rory McIlroy to celebrate him becoming Europe’s first career Grand Slam winner.
McIlroy is only the sixth male golfer in the modern era to win all four majors, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods in the Grand Slam club with his dramatic playoff success at the Masters.
The Rory McIlroy Award will be introduced from the 2026 season and will be presented to the DP World Tour member with the best performance in all four majors during the year.
The award is given to the player who earns the most Race to Dubai points at the Masters, PGA Championship, US Open and The Open, but cannot be won by McIlroy himself.
“It’s a great honor and a humbling thing to have something named after you and to be able to present it to future generations of players,” McIlroy said ahead of the DP World Tour Championship.
“This definitely means a lot to me because the DP World Tour is where I started my career. I have always loved playing on this tour and of course representing Europe and the Tour at the Ryder Cup.
“I am very proud to be the first European to achieve a career Grand Slam. The majors represent the pinnacle of our sport and I hope my success will inspire other DP World Tour members to pursue and achieve their own dreams in the years to come.
“I look forward to seeing who will be the first recipients of this new award in 2026. It will be another very proud moment for me personally to present them with the trophy.”
The Rory McIlroy Award is the latest award to be named after players who have made significant contributions to the sport of golf, such as Seve Ballesteros, Harry Vardon, Sir Henry Cotton and John Jacobs.
The Seve Ballesteros Award is presented each year to the member named Players’ Player of the Year, the Harry Vardon Trophy is presented to the Race to Dubai winner and the Sir Henry Cotton Award is presented to Rookie of the Year. The John Jacobs Trophy, named after the founding father of the European Tour, is awarded to the winner of the Legends Tour Order of Merit.
DP World Tour Chief Executive Guy Kinnings said: “Rory will no doubt achieve many more great achievements during his career, but as a Tour we wanted to celebrate his historic achievement this year of becoming the first European winner of the Career Grand Slam.
“This new award will be a lasting legacy that we hope will inspire future generations of DP World Tour members to follow in Rory’s footsteps on golf’s biggest stage.
“Rory has already made tremendous contributions to our tour and golf in general throughout his career. He is also a great ambassador for global golf, so we are thrilled to unveil the Rory McIlroy Award in his honor.”
