Anger erupted at the Mosconi Cup press conference between the European and American teams!
Captain Jason Shaw said the European side came to London to win the Moscone Cup while the Americans vowed to ‘suppress’ the visitors at Alexandra Palace, claiming they were here to get paid.
The European team is aiming for a remarkable sixth successive title, having won 15 of its last 18 Moscone Cup matches since 2007. They also broke their all-time record with 17 wins. That’s three more than the United States’ number of 13.
speaking sky sportsScotland ace Shaw said: “I don’t think they will stop the corruption. The same five were defeated convincingly last year so I think we know what to do.
“If we play the game and get in front, they’re going to break down. They do it all the time. We can see it in their faces. That’s the difference between us and them! When we’re down, we keep fighting, when they’re down, they surrender and we can smell it and see it. If we get off to a good start, we’ll crush them.
“You’re going to see me strut my stuff and do my job. I’m going to do my Jayson Shaw thing. We’re going to win 11-6. I can’t see them getting over six points.
“We came to win. They came to get paid.”

What is the Mosconi Cup?
Who will take home the famous Mosconi Cup at the Alexandra Palace?
Similar to golf’s Ryder Cup, the Mosconi Cup, named after American billiards icon Willie Mosconi, brings together the best nine-ball pool players from Europe and the United States for a four-day battle for supremacy.
The event began at the Roller Bowl in Romford in 1994 and included snooker greats Steve Davis and Jimmy White as part of the eight-man European team.
The Americans dominated the Mosconi Cup early on, winning 10 of the first 13 contests outright with just one draw. However, Europe has been dominant since 2007 and has lost only three times since then.
Team Europe enters this year’s tournament at Alexandra Palace looking to win its sixth straight title, having won 11-6 last year in Orlando, Florida.
What is the format?
Will Jayson Shaw offer his services once again for Team Europe?
The format of the Mosconi Cup has varied over the years, but in its current format, each team consists of five players who play singles, doubles and team matches over four days.
Three players will automatically qualify for the team through their Race to the Mosconi Cup rankings, calculated based on their performance on the World Nine-Ball Tour throughout the year, with the remaining two spots filled by each captain selecting a wild card.
The $300,000 event begins in traditional fashion with a team opener Wednesday night and concludes with singles matches throughout the final day. The captain’s choice determines if the final match is a 10-10 draw.
All matches will be five-a-side races, alternating breaks and played under World Nineball Tour rules, with the winning team receiving $40,000 per player.
