Americans can travel to Uzbekistan without a visa starting January 1. Central Asian countries allow visa-free stay for up to 30 days.
London-based adventure tour operator Wild Frontiers said it expected demand for Uzbekistan to rise next year.
“The introduction of visa waivers for US citizens was a turning point for tourism in Central Asia,” said Clare Tobin, CEO of Wild Frontiers. “For many American travelers, Uzbekistan is the perfect gateway into the heart of the Silk Road, a region rich in history, culture, and scenery but still relatively unknown.”
Wild Frontiers’ Uzbekistan bookings increased 20% year-on-year.
G Adventures said Uzbekistan’s growing popularity in August led to a 57% increase in bookings, driven by increased social media exposure. Silk Road Treasure Tours, a travel agency specializing in Central Asia, has reported a 70% surge in bookings to Uzbekistan this year.
“Uzbekistan is a true Central Asian travel hub and the only country with connections to all ‘stans,’” said Zulya Rajabova, founder and president.
