Bournemouth 1 – 1 Burnley

Bournemouth were denied a first Premier League win since October when Armando Broja’s late goal earned them a 1-1 draw with Burnley.

This could prove to be a crucial point in the Clarets’ relegation battle as the Albanian international nodded home a cross from Marcus Edwards. It was Burnley’s only shot.

Bournemouth will also have to take responsibility themselves as they saw better possession but wasted opportunities. Antoine Semenyo scored with the first shot of the game. Coincidentally, there was only one Cherries.

He took advantage of Josh Laurent’s mistake and scored a stunning strike. Bournemouth will be grateful to have Semeyo on hand during the busy festive period, with Ghana unable to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations. But whether he will remain at the club until the January deadline is another question.

Most of Bournemouth’s 16 shots went wide, leaving Martin Dubravka unchallenged. David Brooks had plenty of chances, while Semenyo and Justin Kluivert were also guilty of wasting them.

They were booked after Burnley had the ball in the back of the net after half-time. Jaidon Anthony, returning to his former team, headed home from Laurent’s cross but the linesman’s flag was for offside. VAR observed for quite some time and then stood by their on-field decision.

This means Bournemouth’s winless streak has now extended to eight games. They have won their last three in a row, with their last win coming against Nottingham Forest on October 26. They sit in 14th place with 22 points and there were boos around the Vitality Stadium at full-time.
