Residents of Amsterdam were evacuated from their homes after a major fire broke out in the city’s historic Vondelkerk church on Thursday morning.
Local media reported they suspected the structure, which was built in 1880 and is a popular tourist attraction, may have been hit by fireworks.
Video shows flames quickly spreading throughout the building and firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.
The church was designed by Pierre Cuypers, one of the Netherlands’ most famous architects, who was also responsible for the Rijksmuseum and Amsterdam Central Station.
The church was most recently used as a venue for concerts and other events.
