Donald Trump this week reiterated his desire to occupy Greenland, potentially using military force, and make it part of the United States.
The BBC’s Europe editor Katya Adler visited the Arctic island’s capital, Nuuk, to ask locals what they thought of the new threat from the US president.
One Greenlander said he thought Trump was “crazy,” while another said he “just wants to be left alone.”
This is against a backdrop of a scramble by superpowers around the world to secure the Arctic for strategic defense capabilities, as well as rare earths and other minerals newly accessible from melting ice.
