Harry Cobden will miss Saturday’s Cheltenham meeting after failing to fully recover in time from injuries sustained in a fall at Ascot last weekend.
Cobden was riding Neon Moon in a handicap chase when he fell at the ninth fence and collided with a trailing horse.
This meant he missed out on his Grade 1 winning ride at Jonbon, his first significant mount since being announced as JP McManus’ new retained rider in May.
His former boss Paul Nicholls confirmed to The Sun that Cobden will miss meetings, including a ride on promising youth Minella Yoga, now ridden by Sam Twiston-Davies.
“There will be just two runners at Cheltenham – Sam will ride Minella Yoga and Freddie Gingell will ride Quebecois,” Nicholls said.
“Harry’s shoulder is still under some strain so it will take him a few more days to recover from his fall.”
Nicholls revealed last week that he would hold discussions with Twiston-Davies about giving Cobden a Grade 1 ride at his yard next season when he takes up his new role.
