The second shooting by federal agents less than a month after the death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis has reignited public protests over the tactics used in the city’s massive immigration operation.
The growing backlash after a 37-year-old nurse was shot and killed last Saturday prompted a change in tone from President Donald Trump, who said his administration would “soften up a little bit.”
But tensions have been high in Minneapolis for weeks, with frequent protests and confrontations between residents and federal agents. New footage published by News Movement and shared with BBC News shows Preeti’s altercation with federal officials 11 days before her death.
A family spokesperson confirmed that the man in the video was Preeti. In a separate statement released to the press, the family’s lawyer said: “Nothing that happened a week ago could justify Alex’s murder.”
BBC Analysis Editor Ros Atkins reviews this new footage and explains how Trump changed course in Minneapolis.
