Justin Rose leads by six shots heading into the final round at the Farmers Insurance Open and a record score is within sight | golf news

Justin Rose is six strokes behind in the third round of the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, on the verge of a tournament record and his 13th PGA Tour title.

Rose had four birdies on a perfect front nine, including three straight from the fifth, and three more bogeys on the way home for a 4-under 68, putting her at 21 under for the tournament in San Diego.

The all-time winning score at the Farmers Insurance Open is 22 under par, achieved by Tiger Woods (1999) and George Burns (1987), and the 45-year-old will break that record if he hits 2 under par or better on Sunday.

The biggest margin of victory came in 2008, when Woods, a seven-time champion, beat Ryuji Imada by eight strokes. Rose won this tournament in 2019 with 21 underback, beating Adam Scott by two strokes.

Now it would take a slump or something special from his opponents to deny him a second Torrey Pines title and third PGA Tour victory in three years, following the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February 2023 and the FedEx St. Jude Championship last August.

Joel Dahmen of the United States was in second place at 15 under par, following Rose’s 4 under par on Saturday, while Ryo Hisatsune of Japan and Kim Si Woo of Korea were tied for third at 13 under par, about eight strokes behind the leader.

The day’s round went to Germany’s Stephan Jaeger, who shot a 7-under 65 to move 39 places into a tie for sixth at 11 under, while Ireland’s Seamus Power matched the total with four bogeys in his final seven holes.

Brooks Koepka, playing in his first PGA Tour event since returning from LIV Golf, was tied for 61st at 2 under par. His 1-over third round featured a special shot from the cart path to the first green.
