‘Pay and smile’ – Rome visitors face Trevi fountain filling

Rome has introduced a €2 fee to enter the iconic Trevi Fountain viewing area, which was previously free to visit.

This fee is intended to manage tourist numbers and raise funds for the upkeep of the monument.

Some tourists welcomed the plan, hoping it would reduce crowding and provide a better experience. But a skeptical tourist from Sicily was resigned to the fact that he would have to “pay and smile” at the Italian landmark.
