Fabio Wadley is finalizing terms to defend his WBO heavyweight title against Daniel Dubois on May 9.
WBO champion Wardley will defend his belt for the first time against Dubois in a major UK-wide fight taking place at an arena in the UK that has yet to be confirmed.
Wardley was crowned the new WBO titleholder after Oleksandr Usyk relinquished the belt instead of making his mandatory title defense against the undefeated Briton.
The Ipswich boxer won the WBO interim belt in October after a stunning 11th win.–Stopping Joseph Parker’s round at The O2.
Dubois reunited with trainer Don Charles in a bid to regain his world title following a knockout loss to Usyk in their Wembley rematch in July.
The Londoner previously defended his IBF belt with a dramatic knockout win over Anthony Joshua last September.
Last week, Wardley coach Mike Ofo said: sky sports: “Fabio wanted to fight Oleksandr Usyk after beating Joseph Parker, but chose to go after Deontay Wilder instead. Now that fight has fallen through and Fabio wants a unification fight with Usyk for all the belts.
“We were pushing for a fight with either Chisora or Wilder on April 4, but as you can see from reporters, we are taking refuge in each other’s arms and acting like a loved-up couple. But boxing is a tough sport, so please continue to do your best.”
“As for Daniel Dubois, it’s definitely a fight Fabio would love. There’s nothing better than having Brits fighting for the world heavyweight title!”
When asked about the Wardley vs. Dubois fight, promoter Frank Warren said: sky sports: “We are talking with Fabio about a lot of things, we are also talking with Daniel.
“No matter what happens, they both have to fight, they both want to fight and they will fight.
“So they will probably fight in late April, early May.”
