Singapore is one of my favorite cities. Home to famous hawker stalls serving mouth-watering cuisine (including some of the world’s most affordable Michelin-starred meals), Singapore is a bustling, cosmopolitan city-state and a popular stop for anyone traveling through Southeast Asia.
However, because Singapore is a global economic hub, prices are high. In fact, it is consistently ranked as one of the most expensive cities in the world! That means you’ll want to find affordable accommodation for your trip so you don’t break the bank.
There are quite a few hostels here, but only a few are actually worth staying at. To help you plan your trip and save money, here is a list of the best hostels in Singapore:
1. Bohemian

A fun and sociable backpacker hostel. The lobby and common areas are very bright and colorful and the hostel has a very relaxed atmosphere. It’s also one of the cheapest in town, making it perfect for budget travelers who appreciate rustic accommodations. While the beds in standard dorms aren’t very comfortable (the mattresses are a bit thin and there are no privacy curtains), pod-style dorms offer more privacy (the beds also have curtains and individual lights). A free light breakfast is provided every morning.
The staff regularly organizes events to help you meet other travellers.
Bohemian Overview:
- free breakfast
- The social atmosphere makes it easy to meet people.
- budget friendly
2. Dream Lodge

This is a quiet and comfortable hostel. It’s not overly sociable, so it’s a good choice for travelers who want to do their own thing. There are plenty of cafes nearby and several MRT stations, making exploring the city easy from here. The common areas are bright, airy and air-conditioned.
I especially liked the pod-style bed, which was cozy and private. The mattress is ok and two pillows are provided (very rare in hostels). Every pod has its own lighting and lockers to store your belongings. The walls of the pod are quite thick, so you won’t be woken up by the sound of people coming and going at night. If you want a quiet sleep, this is the place.
Dream Lodge Overview:
- Female-only dormitory
- quiet atmosphere
- cozy pod bed
3. The Pod – Boutique Capsule Hostel

This is a more luxurious pod hostel that feels like a hotel. Although not very sociable, it is stylish, quiet, clean and within walking distance of many of the city’s main attractions. The beds are comfortable with thick mattresses, privacy curtains, reading lights, and power outlets. The water pressure in the shower was also very good (a big plus in my book). Dormitory rooms include lockers and complimentary coffee and tea (plus a bottle of water upon arrival).
Ford Overview:
- Free coffee and tea
- Quiet hotel atmosphere
- I sleep well on a thick mattress.
4. Atelier Hostel

This cozy hostel is located in Chinatown. It’s also located right above the cafe and serves a delicious complimentary breakfast every morning. I really liked the pod bed here, which had a good mattress and blackout curtains so I could sleep well. Each bed has a light and an outlet. Best of all, the hostel is a short walk from the Maxwell Food Centre. Overall, the hostel has a calm and comfortable atmosphere.
Atelier Hostel Overview:
- delicious free breakfast
- Female-only dormitory
- Great location in Chinatown
Singapore may be expensive, but you don’t have to break the bank to visit. With cheap, delicious food and a growing number of fun, affordable hostels, traveling on a budget has never been easier. Be sure to book any of the hostels on this list. This hostel is the best in the city!
