Spurs 1 – 2 Newcastle

Tottenham were booed again as Newcastle secured a rare 2-1 win at home, putting pressure on Spurs manager Thomas Frank.

The defeat means Frank has the lowest winning percentage of any Spurs manager in the Premier League era (26.9% winning percentage), with the club now in 16th place and in the relegation battle.

The Danes were booed by fans before kick-off but the home crowd rallied to their side throughout the match, which appeared to spark a reaction after Archie Gray equalized after Malick Thiaw’s opener in the second half.

But the relief and positivity for Spurs fans was short-lived as Jacob Ramsey restored Newcastle’s lead four minutes later when he swept home from inside the box despite being surrounded by defenders.

Frank urged his side to be “desperate” to win this game, but in reality it was another lukewarm and disconnected display, with Newcastle clearly the better side despite their away difficulties.

The visitors had controlled this fixture from the start, despite having won just two of their last 15 league games at home before this match.

A win would have been more convincing, but Joe Willock’s goal was ruled out for a “closest” offside call seen by former referee Mike Dean six minutes before Thiaw broke the deadlock.

There was mounting pressure on both managers heading into this stadium, but it was Howe who eased it. The decisive win lifted Newcastle to 10th place and ended a run of four consecutive games without a win.

Meanwhile, Spurs have gone eight games without a win in the league and are yet to win in 2026.

Before the full-time whistle, chants of “You’re fired in the morning” and “Frank wants out” emerged from the home crowd, with loud booing throughout and Frank’s position slowly tilting in a direction that was now untenable.

Tottenham have 12 days off before their next away game. But it is against table toppers and rivals Arsenal. sky sportsFebruary 22nd.
