I didn’t want or expect much from Azure Hotel and Art Studio. Staying here served more of a purpose than your average idyllic Caribbean escape. I was just transiting through St. Maarten. To get to my real destination, St. Eustatius, I would need to spend the night, preferably as close to SXM Airport. A random online search led me to Azure to spend the night. But by the time I had to leave early the next day, I wished I could have stayed much longer.
As you can see, Azure meets all of the most basic requirements I look for in a hotel. Although it has a beach bohemian style, it is quite clean. La Samana is not like that.
Azure is also small in the sense that you may meet some, if not all, of your fellow guests while staying here. Of course, this can be both good and bad in most places. I don’t think this will be the case with Azure. This place gives off an vibe that suggests most people who happen to happen here operate on a similar wavelength. I am talking about a very relaxed, quiet, simple and pleasant person.
Oh, and I imagine typical Azure Hotel & Art Studio guests all love the beach. What I mean is, the place is located right on a very nice section of Simpson Bay Beach.
It’s literally right outside our tiny one-bedroom beach suite that will be your home for an enchanting night at SXM. Azure Hotel has 8 private rooms. Others are larger and more elegant, but cannot get you to the beach as well as the Beach Suite.
The daylight hours were great as we were able to enjoy the beach. Still, it was better at night under the stars. Falling asleep to the sound of waves caressing the shores of Simpson Bay just steps from our window was the icing on the cake.
Definitely we will be back again soon for an extended stay when we want to explore what the art studio at Azure Hotel and Art Studio has to offer.
Azure Hotel is located at #6 Roberts Drive in Simpsons Bay, Sint Maarten. The main runway of Princess Juliana Airport (SXM) is just steps from the property. Taxi fare to the main terminal is US$15.
