Rodney Benson, a media professor at New York University, called the deal “relevant” and said it would put America’s largest media companies more concentrated in the hands of conservatives. Many of these owners, including the Ellison family, have separate business interests unrelated to news that rely on government contracts or regulations, making them particularly vulnerable to pressure, he added.
