Chocolate peanut butter cup ingredients in ice cube tray

Peanut Butter – This can be smooth or crunchy peanut butter. Natural PBs work well, as do brands like Skippy or Jif.

If you’re allergic to peanuts or simply want a different taste, try almond butter, sunflower seed butter, cashew butter, or coconut butter.

chocolate – I like semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips. If you wish, you can use milk chocolate or white chocolate. Or, choose a broken chocolate bar in your favorite flavor.

To make plant-based vegan PB cups, look for dairy-free chocolate chips. For those on a low-carb or keto diet, use sugar-free chocolate chips.

Sweetener – If you especially like the taste of sweeter peanut butter cups and use sugar-free peanut butter, try mixing in your favorite sweetener. Options include pure maple syrup or honey, powdered sugar, erythritol, or stevia.

Other Optional Ingredients – I find that stirring 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil or coconut oil into the melted chocolate makes the sauce smoother. This is entirely optional. If you like, you can also add a drop or two of pure peppermint extract, maple extract, or vanilla extract to the peanut butter or melted chocolate.

How to Make Ice Cube Tray Peanut Butter Cups

This simple no-bake chocolate recipe takes just a few steps.

Step 1:

Carefully melt the chocolate chips in the microwave or on the stovetop using the double boiler method. If you want a smoother chocolate sauce once melted, optionally stir in 2 teaspoons of oil.

Pour the melted chocolate into the bottom of 1 or 2 clean ice trays. I like the silicone ice tray so it can be easily removed later.

Step 2:

Combine nut butter and optional sweetener.

Divide this peanut butter mixture evenly into each ice cube tray over the chocolate layer.

The recipe is based on the chocolate truffles and peanut butter truffles I made.

  • Gather supplies. Grease an ice tray and set aside. Melt the chocolate carefully. Pour about 1/3 of the melted chocolate into the bottom of the ice tray. Mix together nut butter and sweetener, if using. Divide the nut butter evenly between ice cube trays and place in the center of each. Cover with remaining chocolate. Freeze completely to harden the chocolate. Turn sideways and pop out. You can store it in the refrigerator or freezer, or at room temperature for several hours.
