Inside Venezuela’s political transition after Maduro’s ouster

Venezuela entered a period of political transition following the ouster of former President Nicolas Maduro on January 3, 2026. The United States and Venezuela agreed to rebuild diplomatic and consular ties, and both sides pledged to work to promote stability, support economic recovery, and advance political reconciliation.

But Venezuelans at home are still protesting the return of Nicolas Maduro.
