OpenAI has postponed the launch of “Adult Mode,” a ChatGPT feature that provides access to erotica and other adult content to verified adult users.
“In December, we will more fully enforce age restrictions and allow more things like verified adult erotica as part of our ‘treat adult users like adults’ principle,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said when first announcing the feature last October.
The launch has already been delayed once, from December until the first quarter of this year, when Altman declared a “code red” and sent an internal memo calling for the team to focus on the core ChatGPT experience.
Now, an OpenAI spokesperson tells Axios that the company is “pushing the launch of an adult mode” to “focus on tasks that are now higher priorities for more users,” including intelligence, personality, and making chatbots “more proactive.”
A spokesperson said: “We still believe in treating adults like adults, but it will take longer to get the experience right.”
It’s unclear how long the delay will last. This news was first reported by Sources.
