John Fury has revealed his relationship with Tyson Fury has “completely broken down” and believes his son is “past his prime” ahead of his return fight against Arslanbek Makhmudov next month.
Fury is preparing to return to the ring for the first time since losing his rematch to Oleksandr Usyk in December 2024. A loss to a Ukrainian fighter in May of that year cost him the undisputed heavyweight championship.
His father John has long been a familiar face in Fury’s corner, sometimes making the wrong headlines for his controversial behavior during press conferences and fight week.

“My relationship with Tyson is broken,” Fury said. Playbook Boxing presented by Betway. “Boxing has completely destroyed it. I’ll tell you on camera, I’ve never taken 10 pounds off him in my life and I never will.
“I don’t want Tyson’s money, and I don’t need Tyson’s money. Good luck to him, whatever he’s got, but don’t forget who made up his story when he was a kid. He didn’t make it up himself, did he? It’s me, his father.”
In the same interview, Fury was highly critical of his son’s trainer, SugarHill Steward, and questioned his advice during his first fight with Usyk.

Fury playfully tickled Mahmudov ahead of their much-anticipated showdown in April.
After spending three years out of the ring following his win over Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, Fury returned to ignite a compelling trilogy with Deontay Wilder.
His father believes three physically demanding fights against Wilder mean Fury’s prime is behind him.
“I think he went above and beyond,” Fury added. “I’m a no-filter person. I say what I see. I love the guy, but there are so many people patting him on the back and telling him things that aren’t true and making him feel invincible. He’s not and hasn’t been for a while.
“Tyson has been gone since Deontay Wilder fought. They’re done with him. Wilder’s done him over. He’s got no legs underneath him. He’s taken a lot out of Tyson. Mahmudov is a problem for Tyson. I’m the first person to say this.
“Now I understand that Tyson is testing himself, but I can tell you now, his leg is no longer there. I understand the only way he can believe it and see it when the first bell rings.”

Fury believes Oleksandr Usyk will ‘beg’ him for a trilogy fight by the end of the year.
Usyk recently revealed the prospect of a trilogy fight with Fury towards the end of his career, but John insisted the outcome would remain the same.
“Nothing will change,” he said. “Tyson becomes weaker and Yusik becomes stronger.”
