Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg’s relationship was once prickly enough for Musk to challenge Zuckerberg to a cage fight, but things warmed up early in the second Trump administration, at least according to court documents released Friday.
As Engadget reported, these texts between Zuckerberg and Musk were released as part of Musk’s lawsuit against OpenAI. They were sent on February 3, 2025, around the time Zuckerberg appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast to complain that corporate America had become “debilitated.”
Addressing Musk’s aggressive government crackdown efforts through the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), Zuckerberg texted: “DOGE appears to be making progress. Our team is on guard to root out content doxxing or threats to our team members. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.”
Musk responded with a heart emoji and then asked, “Would you consider joining me and others in bidding on OpenAI?”
In response, CEO Mehta suggested discussing the idea over the phone. Previously released documents show that Zuckerberg never actually signed on to join Musk’s bid.
